A Smart Product is an item you tell TapMango to pay attention to, such as a large latte, a banana bowl, or a car wash package. Once an item is a Smart Product, TapMango can count every time a customer buys it. That count can drive punch cards, bonus points, customer groups, and campaigns.
This is not your inventory
Smart Products live under Loyalty → Smart Products. They are the short list of items you want to track and reward. A shop with a large menu may only need a handful.
| A Smart Product is | A Smart Product is not |
|---|---|
| A tracked item used for loyalty and marketing | A menu item for Online Ordering. Online Ordering menus are Catalog Sync |
| One loyalty item that can stand for many point-of-sale items, such as all coffee sizes as one Coffee | An inventory or stock record |
| The item behind punch cards, customer groups, and campaigns | Something you need for every product you sell |
Why create a Smart Product
| What you can do | What happens |
|---|---|
| Digital punch cards | A customer is rewarded automatically after they buy the same item a set number of times |
| Bonus points on key items | Extra points are added when that item is purchased |
| Customer groups | Customers are grouped by the items they buy |
| Targeted campaigns | You can message the people who buy that item |
| Purchase visibility | The product page shows how often the item is bought, by how many customers, and whether that is up or down versus the previous 30 days |
For the campaign that issues the reward, see Create a punch card system: Buy X number of products, get 1 free.
If the customer pays ahead for several uses, that is a prepaid pack. See Create a Multi-Pack Purchase System: Buy 10 Massages now, to use later.
The Smart Products list
The first time you open the page, you see Choose the Items That Power Your Marketing and Create a Smart Product. The card says you do not need to add everything, only the items you want to track and reward. What You Can Do With Smart Products lists digital punch cards, bonus points on key items, groups by what customers buy, and targeted campaigns.
The same card rotates these ideas:
- Build a digital punch card
- Spot your most loyal buyers
- Run a purchase streak
- Group customers by what they buy
- You do not need to add everything
- One Smart Product can cover many point-of-sale items, such as every coffee size as one Coffee
After you have products, use Search products, Filter by (category, connections, or status), and Sort by. Switch between List View and Tile View. The choice is remembered for you.
Three icons show what each product is connected to. Each one lights up when it applies:
| Icon | What it means |
|---|---|
| Mappings | The product is mapped to point-of-sale or online items |
| Groups | A customer group uses this product |
| Automations | A campaign or punch card uses this product |
Is Active turns tracking on or off without deleting the product.
Create a Smart Product tracked by your point of sale
If you have no supported integration, Mapped to POS / E-Commerce is unavailable and the page says “Product mappings are not available for this merchant.” Use Manual, or finish the point-of-sale setup first.
Names must be unique. Saving a duplicate name returns “A product with this name already exists.”

Bonus points and limits
Leave bonus points off when the item is only for a punch card or a customer group. A product uses either a fixed value or a price percentage.
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Enable | Turns bonus points on |
| Fixed Value | A set number of points each time the item is purchased |
| Price Percentage | Points equal to a percentage of the item price, from 1 to 100 |
| Manual Entry Limit | Caps how many times this product can be added for one customer during one tablet purchase session. Leave it blank for no limit. It does not limit how many a customer can buy at the point of sale |
| Active | An inactive product stops being tracked and stops earning points. The product and its purchase history stay |
See How can I give bonus points away for certain products?.
Categories
Categories organize the list so you can filter it. They do not change points or tracking. You can still use the category name in a customer group or a campaign trigger. Manage Categories on the list creates, renames, and deletes categories. Add New Category is also available while you create a product.
Mapping a whole point-of-sale category is a different control: Mapping Type set to Category on the Tracking step.
On the product page
Open a product name to see its page.
If the product is off, an orange banner says Product Inactive: purchases for this Smart Product will not earn points while it is inactive. Tracking stops as well. The history stays.
The Purchases card covers the last 30 days and is labelled Updated daily. It shows purchases and unique buyers for this period and for the 30 days before that, plus a chart of daily purchases against the previous period. The change is a percentage, or New when there is no earlier data. A sale from the last few minutes may not appear yet. Buyers counts different customers, so it will not match the purchase count. If nothing has been recorded, the card says No purchases yet.
Recent Activity lists purchases from the last 12 months, with the date, customer, location, and source. If there are none, it says no purchase history is available for this item.
Three cards on the page both explain the next step and open it:
| Card | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Groups | Group customers from their purchase history, then Create a Group or View Groups |
| Punch Cards | Reward customers after they buy this item a set number of times, then Create a Punch Card or View Campaigns |
| Automations | Run actions from purchasing patterns, such as streaks or targeted messages, then Create an Automation or View Campaigns |
Those buttons open the classic portal, so the page look changes on the way through.
