What is How To Earn?
How to Earn displays your program offerings on your online sign-up page. It also displays information in the How to Earn section of your Shopify eCommerce widget.
How to Earn options are initially generated from the campaigns you create, and can be customized.
How do I turn it on?
How to Earn is optional and must be turned on.
1Step 1Open Account, then Settings. The page is titled Advanced Settings.
2Step 2Open the Customer Portal tab.
3Step 3Check Show 'How To Earn' on Customer Portal.
4Step 4Save.
Where can I find How To Earn?
Open Loyalty, then How to Earn.
How does How To Earn Work?
| Behavior | What happens |
|---|---|
| Automatically Generated | Based on your rewards program setup, How to Earn items are created automatically. |
| Automatically Updated | When you change parts of your program, How to Earn updates. Example: if you change your dollar to point ratio, the Spend item updates to show the proper values. |
| Customization | If you edit a How to Earn item, it stays that way. Customized wording is not overridden when the setup that created the item changes. |
| Add Your Own | You can add your own How to Earn items and customize what appears on them. You can also add links. |
What Is Available?
| Type | What it displays |
|---|---|
| Birthday | The offer your customer earns for their birthday. |
| Spend | Your dollar to point ratio and how to earn points from money spent. |
| Collect | Your rewards and point costs. |
| Register | Your sign-up bonus. |
| Refer | The offer given to customers for referring friends, or the unique bonus referred customers receive on sign-up. |
| Visit | A check-in bonus, or how to earn points based on check-in. |
| Buy | Points for products, or a frequent purchase program such as Buy 5 Get 1 Free. |
How Do I Edit, or Create My Own?
Select Edit to edit an existing How to Earn item. Click Create New to create one.
What does each field mean?
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Type | The purpose of the How to Earn item. It determines the icon that appears. See the types above. |
| Action | What the customer must do. Examples: Purchase 5 Coffees, Spend Money In Store, Visit 5 Times, Register, Refer your friends. |
| Result | What the customer is given. Examples: Get your 6th Free, Earn 5 Points for Every Dollar Spent, Get 10% Off, $5 Off your First Purchase, $10 Referral Credit. |
| Link Title | Optional. If you include a link, this is the title that appears above the link. |
| Link URL | Optional. If you include a link, this is the URL. The URL can be general, such as your online store. It can also be contextual when the customer is signed in, for example [[REFER_FRIEND_URL]]. |
| Restrict To Groups | For signed-in customers, this hides the How to Earn item from members who are not in the specified groups. |
| Restrict to Locations | For signed-in customers, this hides the How to Earn item from members who are not in the specified locations. |
| Is Published | If this is unchecked, the item can be saved and edited, but it will not appear on your Shopify eCommerce widget or customer portal. |
